eyes downcast
last words sealed with
closed mouth kiss

polite words
and broken
promises

this is the thanks I get
silence, scars
and cold regret
this gift's been given
for the last
time

endless longing
these open arms they
offer nothing

final grieving
for a
lost smile

a farewell just in case
your heart becomes misplaced
a fire burns
for such a short
time

I'll light a candle
in remembrance
I'll tie the knot
with a final kiss

a feeling like coming home
this sense of longing fits
like a glove

hold your breath
it fades away

these aching words
from bitter tongues
mean more to me
than you will
ever know

these last goodbyes
oh, so casual
each star in my sky
burns out when you

after posting that last song collaboration, I thought it might be fun to share an actual song I wrote, a few years ago, from the last "real" band I was in.

the song is called Last Goodbyes and I wrote it for a band I was in called What The Moon Brings. I named us after a short story by HP Lovecraft and wrote all the lyrics/did vocals.

this was the first song we ever wrote and it was recorded, with just a mike hanging over our heads, at practice one day. so, the quality is very rough.

also, if you don't like screaming - don't listen. if you don't like loud guitars, drum with double bass pedals being blasted, or experimental heavy indie rock/"post-hardcore" with keyboards - don't listen.

that being said, I think this band was quite good and, had we not broke up so soon, we would have gone places. the musicians I played with were amazing. drums & lead guitar, especially. I'm not usually one to toot my own horn but I was really proud to be in the band and still think very fondly of it.

so, if you like music like: The Blood Brothers, the pAper chAse, Dillenger Escape Plan, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Poison The Well, etc. - check it out! if you have an open mind - check it out! if you're just really curious - check it out!

I think the song really starts getting amazing around the 2:30 mark and I even wrote some of the music starting around the 3:00 mark. :)

enjoy!

haha. I'm well aware this style of
music isn't to everyone's taste, thus
the warning, but I'm glad you can still
appreciate the lyrics.

thanks a lot.

you're very welcome, and the instrumentals were actually not so bad.

:O_o: Wow man, I had no idea... The music is alright, but the vocal... well, the mic obviously doesn't do you justice, but screaming sort of rubs me raw anyway. I was thinking though, the vocals are so faint you could just over dub some new ones and the old ones would just sound sorta like static in the background. Not undesirable for the type of music :). I don't know what you would do with it afterward, but just a thought.

haha

like I said, we hung a mike in the middle
of the room to pick up everything and
that's why the vocals are fainter than
they should be. I may take your idea and
mess around with it someday, if so, I'll
let you know.

I happen to like screaming when it's done well.
what I really can't stand, for the most part,
is the "screamo" that's popular these days,
with either bad screaming or whiny singing
or, worst of all, both mixed.

but, different strokes for different folks.

thanks for the idea.

Np. I'm a Nirvana fan so I can't say that screaming has no place in music, but I think it should be used like a fine spice or it can easily be over powering. Btw, good luck on the music, man :)

my tastes are extremely varied.
I listen to jazz, hip hop, old country,
indie rock, classic rock, etc. etc. etc.

I actually don't listen to much
"metal" or "hardcore", with notable
exceptions like The Blood Brothers, whom
I love. it sure is fun to play, though.
haha.

music has really taken a back burner in the
past few years, as I've moved around. I've
done some hip hop and comedic improve musical
stuff, semi-recently, but I've moved to much
to invest enough time in anything very serious,
bandwise.

I'm hoping to save up money for music/recording
equipment this year though, so who knows.

I appreciate the input.

Well I'm glad, cause personally I don't respect anyone's taste in music if it's not at least a little eclectic.

If you ever get serious about music again, more specifically gigging, I would consider Austin Tx. My dad lives there and I can say from experience when it comes to small live music venues there are very few, if any places better. Probably not the best place to get noticed and become a big star, but...

Comedic improv, as in stand-up?

autin has a great music scene.

bands I love such as: at the drive in, les savy fav,
the impossibles, and, I think, spoon & daniel johnston, etc.
have come out of there. :)

and comedic improv music, as in comedic song,
improvised, performed, and often recorded,
with some friends of mine.

creating music is something I love to do with my
friends.
